The Book of Emperors
MY THOUGHTS
If I had to be honest, I’d say, I envy this generation.
We studied history and the Mughals too and I can safely speak for my fellow millennials and say, it was never this fun.
The Book Of Emperors: An Illustrated History of Mughals by Ashwitha Jayakumar and Nikhil Gulati takes you on a whirlwind ride from when Babur entered India, right up until the end of the Mughal dynasty in India with Bahadur Shah Zafar II. Through it all we read and learn about the opulence of the Mughals — from the food they ate to the arts they patronised. Each chapter is a look into the life of an emperor while addressing an aspect of their lifestyle and feature of their reign.
I have used my personal soapbox and advocated the advantages of making learning fun. This book will imprint vivid images (and information) about the Mughals better than any textbook ever will. Ashwitha’s extensive research shines through. She humanises the Mughal emperors and writes passionately about their life and reign.
I am a huge fan of Nikhil’s earlier book – The People of the Indus — and in this book too, Nikhil makes the world of Mughals come alive with colourful pages and interesting details.
This is a book that you need on your shelf because it will work not just as supplementary reading for your child but also when you want to brush up on your Mughal empire knowledge, you know for when their relevance is discussed at your next party.
