Numbers With Krishna
MY THOUGHTS
If I had to imagine my grandmother reading a book to my son, it would be Numbers With Krishna.
This counting book uses scenes from Little Krishna’s life to count numbers from 1 to 10. Each spread of this sturdy board book is filled with bright and colourful images of Krishna and his childhood friends. There is an English and Hindi numeral. A couplet in English and the same translated into Hindi in the Devanagari script.
In Numbers with Krishna, Adidev Press uses two languages as they do in all their books. This is a great way for a baby to hear words read aloud in two languages. As I mentioned earlier, this is also a great book to gift to a grandparent when they watch over your baby. I assumed this book would be overly religious, but this book only uses well-known stories and motifs from Krishna’s life, making it a perfect gift for new parents. The illustrations are bright and colourful, which would definitely delight young readers. As with all of their books, there are several things you can choose to focus on. Do one reading of the English text, another in Hindi, and the third while focusing only on counting and numbers. Look at the illustrations and string your own story together. The possibilities are endless! Perfect for your baby or even to gift for a baby shower or to add as part of a child’s first library.
