Line Meets Line

MY THOUGHTS

What makes for a good read-aloud book?

There’s a story, beautiful pictures, the way it is written so kids follow along, good conversation points, humour, etc etc. Ask anyone who reads a book out loud to kids, and you will get a list of must-haves, that may be vastly different. For me, a good read-aloud book is one exactly like Line Meets Line.

Line Meets Line by Rea Mukhtyar is about the different things that happen when A Line meets B Line. When they come together, they become chopsticks to eat noodles. When they cross, it tells us something’s not right. When they meet at one point, they become mountains (or crows!) In a scenery! What lines can do when they meet is endless, and it is so much fun listening to what kids will come up with!

But wait! What happens when the line meets someone a little different? Maybe squiggly? Line is now thrilled! It can be whatever it wants!

This is a book that not only will lead to endless squeals and giggles but will engage the young listener and keep them coming back for more. The gorgeous illustrations by Aditya Angelo and the bold typesetting of the book is pure genius; it will suck the young reader in and keep them turning the page for more. If you want to look deeper, sure you can talk about how every person has the capacity to look beyond themselves, the capability to change for the better yada yada, but hey, let’s leave that for another day. For now, let’s have fun with what happens when Line Meets Line!
