Ghosts, Thieves, and Aha! Adventures
Series: Silly Billy Books
MY THOUGHTS
Ghosts, Thieves and Aha! Adventures is one of those Aha summer reads that is filled with heartwarming events and the nicest characters. Silly Billy Books is the latest summer drop from Penguin India, a set of three books perfect for emerging readers just beginning to read independently. The chapter sizes are small, and the books are fast-paced.
I loved this one in particular. Asha Nehemiah is famous for writing the most adorable characters! In this book, Nehemiah creates a little bookstore called Aha! Books. Ashish’s mother, Ruth, works at the store and has asked Ashish to come to the bookstore right after school because she has to work a few extra hours. Ashish grumbles because he knows he will be bored out of his skull, but he knows his mother won’t change her mind. He meets Kavya, a teenage employee at the store who tells him about the bookstore thief and ghost and enlists his help to catch them! You will find yourself sympathising with Ashish and cheering him on, and hoping he and Kavya find the “ghost” messing with their work!
I love all the characters, but the golden retriever dog, Kattaboman, is my favourite!
Asha Nehemiah’s story is fast-paced, thrilling and filled with adorable elements that will hook the child to the book. Illustrator Saikia fills the pages with gorgeous pictures, and the combination of their work makes you feel like you are reading about people you know.
I love books like these because it gives us things to talk about, and more importantly, laugh about. Perfect summer read,
