Amma, Take Me To The Taj Mahal
Series: Amma, Tell Me series
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY
MY THOUGHTS
When I spoke to Bhakti Mathur on Tell Me A Story about Amma Take Me To the Taj Mahal, she told me she hoped the book would be a go-to book of sorts for anyone visiting the Taj Mahal. You have to read this book to understand just how exhaustive her research is! It has answers to the questions her children asked her when they visited. It has the history of the Mughals and the evolution of the Taj Mahal. It has details about the architecture, the Mughal gardens, and amazing information about the intricate marble inlay work in the complex. It even has the backstory about when Babur first established the Mughal dynasty in India and how a series of events led to the creation of the Taj Mahal!
The book has all a lot of information, but the way it is written is what charmed me. The story has Amma visiting the monument with her sons Shiv and Veer, and it is through their questions and Amma’s answers that the book comes alive. Author Bhakti Mathur uses her experience as a mom visiting the Taj Mahal and parcels all her sons’ questions into a neat little package that should find its place in your backpack when you visit the Taj Mahal. The illustrations by Priyankar Gupta succeed in helping kids visualise the intricacy of the artwork and the grandeur of the monument.
Known for her smash-hit Amma Tell Me series, which focused on festivals of India, the latest Amma Take Me To series, published by Penguin India, takes readers on a journey to important places of culture and heritage around India. This is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the richness that India has to offer, all in a manner that they would love to read and probably even share. Make sure you get this book if you are planning to visit the Taj Mahal anytime soon, and also check out all the other books in this spectacular series.
