Exam Fever
MY THOUGHTS
Ever felt like you have the perfect book in your head that reflects exactly what is happening around you? A few years ago I was studying to complete my Masters degree in English Literature. At that time I also had a toddler, a busy primary schooler, and a rambunctious dog. Now I jumped into coursework eagerly, knowing my husband would handle all of them and more! Exam Fever is the book I should have had on hand, back then!
Exam Fever is a fun take on exam season where a Mom studying for her BA exams gets a fever. Her supportive family is there to help but will she make it? In this book, we see her struggling with a fever and still trying to complete her studies in bed as she recovers. Her family brings her soup, they read her chapter out loud, comb her hair, and do anything to help her study and feel better. Finally the day of the exam comes, just as the fever breaks.
I love the story of a supportive family rallying around as the mother chases her dream. But what I love even more is how Priya Kuriyan’s illustrations make us believe this could be any of our homes. Her illustrations are so realistic, and each page is filled to the brim with details. Like the white teddy bear in the living room showcase encased in plastic so it doesn’t gather dust. The tiny handwash basin in the corner of the dining area that is so common in Mumbai homes. Or the Keats and Julius Ceaser book covers casually placed on every surface.
This book will fast become a family favourite. We are thick in the middle of exam season, and if you are not writing school exams, you are struggling with your children writing exams. Parents are stressed. Binge eating is de rigueur. I see kids reading their books in the elevator, in cars, in the queue at the bakery! So how do we inject some joy? Bring this book home!
