My Nest Is The Best
MY THOUGHTS
A few months ago, I found an abandoned sunbird nest on one of my walks. I marvelled at the delicate composition and thoughtful, soft, internal lining to protect the eggs. I promptly brought it home and called the neighbourhood kids to see it. The problem was, the kids had never seen or heard of a sunbird. And they couldn’t recognise a nest which didn’t look like the kind we draw.
That’s why books like these are so important. Author Niyatee Sharma packs so much information into this book, and illustrator Sushama Durve brings alive the birds and their intricate nests so beautifully! This is a book that educates and enthrals! This gorgeous book has multiple spreads, and each spread has a little verse talking about the uniqueness of the nest and then a paragraph at the bottom of the page with details about the bird and the nest it has built. Here are three quick reasons why I love the book
- My Nest Is The Best introduces kids to birds, but it also sensitises them to look at a bird’s nest as something special and unique, as they would their own home. It talks about the effort the birds put in to make their nest and what makes each nest so unique.
- This is a book for the ages, and you know we love that at Mother of Readers! The verse is something soothing you could read to your child at bedtime, but once they are independent readers, they can come back to the book to read and learn all the little facts about birds and nests. They could also come back to the book every time they see a nest in the wild and want to find out which bird it belongs to!
- Going on a birding trail with kids seems to be the trendiest thing to do these days! This book is perfect to read before you embark on this trip!
