Travelling Treasures 2.0
MY THOUGHTS
75 incredible tales of things India gave to the world
Travelling Treasures was all about how things like tomatoes, bread, aeroplanes, ketchup, and so many more came to India. Travelling Treasures 2.0 traces everything India gave to the world!
Now, Gurgles (10) is a voracious non-reader who loves spouting trivia multiple times a day. He loved reading Travelling Treasures because he could now trace the history of how some of the things he uses daily arrived at his table! We know that our country has given the world fundamentals like the numeral zero and the decimal system. But did you know we are also responsible for introducing the concept of buttons and steel vessels to the world? This book traces how and where things originated in India and how they travelled across borders to different parts of the world.
The idea for Travelling Treasures, and its format, has always been fascinating for me. Using short chapters (barely a page or two), author Mala Kumar piques the interest of the reader enough to have them go and find out more. Using objects they are familiar with and probably use daily, she keeps the book relatable and interesting enough for them to engage with the book for a long period of time. The best part: the book is in alphabetical order! So the reader can begin reading, flip a few pages to another letter and continue with another object. The books can also be read at random, whenever a child is using an object and is curious about its origins. Even though the book is about history, author Mala Kumar’s writing style makes the book light and interesting without bombarding the young reader with too many facts. I love that this book can be used to spark interesting conversations on rainy days with children! Pick an item, search for its history, and make a game of it!
Travelling Treasures is definitely a series for curious readers! Get them both today!
