MY THOUGHTS

The week after an amazing holiday is the most tough to get through and I really needed a pick me up today. Beauty is Missing, written and illustrated by Priya Kuriyan to the rescue!

This is a rip-roaring, seam-splitting sort of book and as the kids say these days, will have you ROFL. Beauty the Buffalo is missing and her worried owner Tessamma goes to the police station to file a complaint. But the officers can’t seem to look beyond the fact that Tessamma named the buffalo Beauty! Constable Jincy Jose decides to take up the case and heads out to find Beauty. Will she find Beauty? Read this book to find out!

My most favourite thing about a Priya Kuriyan illustrated book is looking for and finding tiny details that add depth to a story. Her illustrations add another dimension to the story. Set in a small village in Kerala, the details in the pages transports you to fields with mango trees, lungi wearing bald men, giggling Chechis, mustachioed Chettans, and tea stalls with speckled bananas. Also Jincy Jose is such a classic beauty with that tiny bindi and that smartly tailored KP uniform!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will highly recommend it not only for a fun read with your kids but also for details that will feel like a mini vacay to rural Kerala!

P.S. I’m off to find someone who can read Malayalam to read the text in the illustrations!
