Nisha Small: The Knot of Gold

MY THOUGHTS

This is an amazing story to introduce the mystery and suspense genre to young readers.

Nisha Small: The Knot of Gold is about Madurai’s finest detective cracking her latest case. Nisha Small, formerly Nisha Kutty, is tasked with finding a missing thaali (gold chain). The missing chain has led to her best friend, Jamie Karthik’s sister’s, wedding being called off. Now she, along with five moustachioed detectives, must solve the case soon! Will she be able to crack the case, and will Jamie’s sister Priya get married?

CG Salamander is back with another winner of a book that combines mystery and whodunnit with his unique brand of Tamil humour (love Mr Virumandi’s moustache!). Add Rajiv Eipe’s illustrations to it, and what you have is a book that must be read, owned, and widely recommended. This is a HoleBook, and you know you are getting to explore a part of India through the story.

Here’s why!
📝The lead character is an adorably spunky girl who stands up to patriarchy and nosy, disapproving paatis.

⭐One of those rare mysteries where you will not be able to crack the case before the detective does!

❣️Characters that make you feel like people from your neighbourhood and extended family that have decided to up and crawl into the pages of this book!

✍️ Amazing illustrations that stay in your mind long after you’ve read the book. They become the first images you can think of when someone mentions Madurai uncles and aunties.

🤣Just a hilarious, laugh-out-loud read that will be a hit with everyone.

Nisha Small and Jamie Karthik are the new super sleuths we need in our lives, and thanks to this book, my boys have a brand new and improved vocabulary when it comes to moustaches!

Reading this book will set the tone for the rest of your week. One I hope is filled with laughs, family, and plenty of solved mysteries. What’s not to love about that?
