MY THOUGHTS

When you reach a certain age with school-going children, you will inevitably find yourself talking to friends, or taking crazy online quizzes to find out what kind of mom you are.

Do you tend to hover over your child’s every activity?
Are you a more free-range parenting mom?
Are you the one who mollycoddles?
Are you the strict disciplinarian?

Whichever mom category you fit in, there will be judgment, and even if you can look past the judgment, the categorisation will cause claustrophobia.

I have done all that and more, and that’s why I fell in love with Mommies. This book was like a gentle summer breeze on a hot, humid day.

Why do mommies need to be categorised by what they do for their children or the home? Why can’t moms be looked at as people? This book takes the mighty step of looking beyond the conventional, stereotypical notions of a mom. Forget the messy bun-sporting, sari-wearing, dabba-making mom or the multitasking, corporate head mom; this book lets us moms take a breather and just be. So in this book, you will find mommies who love picking flowers as a daily pick-me-up, or those who stop to take a selfie, the ones who tend to their long locks, or those who choose to go bare, the ones who speak their mind, or those who chase inner peace. Here is a book that looks at moms as people who have interests defined by things other than what they do for their kids.

That, in my book, is mighty refreshing. Great to hand out as gifts for Mother’s Day to your gal pals or as a conversation starter with kids, too and great for your personal reading pleasure.

Richa Jha weaves magic on every page and keeps you wanting more of the same. The different Mommies that she writes about are all so familiar and it makes you want to add a ton more! Priya Sebastian’s charcoal illustrations will take your breath away! They are frameworthy and exquisite!. She creates magic with minimal colours and exaggerated features. Spend some time absorbing the details.

Pick up your copy and dare I say it, find yourself in the book!
