MY THOUGHTS

This is a book that made my mom’s heart so happy!

When my boys were younger, I remember stocking up on gorgeous seek-and-find books. As infants I would show them the brightly coloured pages as I spoke to them about it. As they grew older, we would spend a few minutes before nap time and a valuable chunk of playtime just looking through pages and finding things. These books are great for babies because

  1. They expose them to busy pages where their eyes can train to focus on small details.
  2. They are colourful and engage them visually
  3. Makes for great bonding as you look for details together
  4. Boosts conversation, vocabulary, and language skills
  5. Helps strengthen object recognition

This is why I cannot tell you how happy I was to see an Indian Seek-and-Find book! I sincerely believe in the power of a good seek-and-find book and here is why I love 123 Idlis in a Sambar Sea.

Correct me if I am wrong, but have there been seek-and-find board books in India? My children have grown up looking for and finding burgers, pies, pizza slices, and even eclairs! I am beyond thrilled that we now have a gorgeous book where littles can find plates of idlis, cones of bhel puri, and glasses of yummy chaas! You will even travel from Mumbai to Amritsar, Kochi to Delhi and learn all about India while you are at it!

Ashwitha Jayakumar takes readers on a magical, gastronomic journey that is as fun as it is delicious! Tanya Sharma’s illustrations are bright, colourful, engaging, and immersive. This board book is sturdy and great to carry around in a diaper bag to engage fussy infants or even to engage a toddler on long car rides. I love how relatable it is to Indian readers and how representative it is of our culture. Don’t just stop at looking at the pages; find smaller details, talk about the food, or even the cityscape. The things you can do with this one book are endless and honestly, we all love a book that can multitask!

Perfect for gifting to a new mom or add it to your own baby’s book shelf!
