MY THOUGHTS

The Paper Plane Flew is one of those books that begs to become an activity. The activity then becomes a group activity, and slowly you find yourself surrounded by kids, paper planes, and delightful stories. As parents who are constantly trying to keep kids mindfully engaged, books like these are worth their weight in gold.

The Paper Plane Flew is a delightful addition to the HookBook world. In the book, a little girl and her father make a paper plane and let it fly out into the world. The paper plane flies away and brings joy to a bored schoolboy, an indulgent teacher, an excited girl on a fishing boat, a ship captain and mom missing her kids, and a baby elephant! The plane makes its way from Mumbai to a busy port in Mangalore, and then to the Nilgiris. Will it make its way back home, or will it transform into something more special along its journey? Let the story and your imagination take you places!

This is such a simple, beautiful story filled with action that will transfix the reader and take them all the way to the end just to find out what happens next. This book works on so many levels — to encourage reluctant readers, to mindfully engage kids with a book and activity, and to encourage moody teenagers into an exciting “What do you think happens next” conversation. I also love that it encourages adults to think back to that special moment when they first made paper planes and watched them glide and soar! Author Bharti Singh weaves such an evocative story, and her words go beautifully with Sheena Deviah’s gorgeous illustrations.

I can see myself gifting this book to many tinies just because it is such a delight and truly will bring joy. Perfect for kids 5+
