Reading Levels
Reading levels help group books based on reading confidence, language complexity, and storytelling depth. They’re meant to guide you, not limit you. Children develop at different paces, and interest often matters as much as ability. If a book sparks curiosity, it’s worth exploring, even if it doesn’t fit neatly into a level.
First Books (0-3 yrs)
Sturdy books with few words or simple phrases, designed for babies and toddlers. These focus on sounds, images, rhythm, and early word recognition.
Early Readers (4-8 yrs)
Short texts with simple sentences and familiar words, ideal for children beginning to read on their own.
Middle Grade (8-12 yrs)
Richer storytelling with layered themes, emotional depth, and longer narratives. Suitable for confident, independent readers.
Young Adult (12-18 yrs)
Complex stories that explore identity, relationships, and real-world themes. Written for teens but often enjoyed by adults too.
